On 11/11/2016 I graduated with a DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (D.B.I.T), to most of you guys a diploma is not worth talking about, but to me its a very big step in life, obviously am not gonna stop my education at this level am willing to go harder with a degree as my minimum target.
The occasion as you expect wasn't that big for me, only my family attended & I was very glad that it was the same day that Prof. NGUGI WA THIONG'O, World literature living Legend received his first Honorary degree from His home Country after being recognized globally, almost winning the Nobel Peace Price For Literature.
My educational journey is Littered with many highlights, I started my schooling in Mathare North where I was born, I was a star student passing through 2 grades in a year eventualy finishing my first 8 of our 8-4-4 education system at only 12 years.
Upon entering High school & boarding school for the first time when 13yrs of age. I was enrolled in a Catholic School St. CHARLES LWANGA SECONDARY School in SUBUKIA. Life there was not easy for me as I was raised in an Adventist family & it was me raising my opinion on my right to practice my FREEDOM OF WORSHIP & other students wanting me to become their ENTERTAINMENT Captain, that got me into direct clash with the authorities & my life in that institution was doomed, so for my own good I was transfered to NGELANI HIGH SCHOOL in Machakos County.
Here I wasn't keen on education for most of the time.("I don't know if its due to the fact that I was an ADOLESCENT"). I saw that he education there was not meeting my needs, ("remember I was a star student when young so I knew it & I think that also cultivated a sense of pride & self awareness in me that I was better than school). Pride comes before a fall & my fall was eminent.
I finished from "NGECHVILLE" as we called it with a D+ Contrary to the 321/500 marks that I had gotten in Primary School which was equivalent to a B. I was only 16 then, at that point in my life, I did not think I needed school, my dreams in life did not need school I wanted to be a GANGSTER, that was my biggest dream, (in my neighborhood, the biggest role models were the #SUPERSTHUGS ), but my parents advised me to go back to school, so later in 2009, I got enrolled in an Adventist school NYAMIRANGA S.D.A SECONDARY in Nyamira County.
My stay there was very brief, I got arrested & then expelled for incitement & attempted arson, but I was only trying to fight for mine & the rights of my fellow students ("JUST BECAUSE YOU STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS THEY WANNA PAINT YOU A VILLAIN & SHOW THAT IMAGE TO THE WHOLE WORLD"). It was my first time in court & I was embroiled in a court case against the school in Nyamira for over a year but later the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.
I still did not see the importance of education at that time, but I had to complete my fourth form for the second time, so I got registered & enrolled in UHURU SECONDARY SCHOOL Nairobi. My learning there was smooth & I completed with a C-, not much improvement from what I had gotten earlier but at least this would allow me to go to University & Start from Certificate level, earning my spots as I climbed through Diploma to Bachelors & So on. Still in my mind at that time I wanted to be a Gangster, so immediately after school it was a good opportunity for me to keep Thug-gin'.
It took me 6 years to complete a 4 year High School Course & I was  now 18 at that time (2010).  I was glad to be done with School & proud of myself, ("not many people in the clique I grew up with finished school"). After School with my criminal mind I was ready to hit the grind, in 2011 August while still in the Street Grind, my greatest Partner in Crime "JUNIOR" got murdered, & my life started taking a U-Turn, I enrolled for driving classes & decided to join UNIVERSITY in January 2013.
This did not come to pass as my impatience led me to leave the place my father had told me to meet him for us to go register,so I missed the opportunity & had to wait for the MAY intake. MAY came & I took the opportunity to to join K.C.A University where I did my Certificate in INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY for 3 months, but me constantly thinking about spending the next 4 years in Campus Without income made me Stop at that.
But this time I did not want to be a GANGSTER, I had started seeing life differently, ("I got a bigger picture of life after joining campus"). We sold clothes with a bunch of friends but later realizing that I wasn't making enough Cash, I thought education would help me, so in January 2014 I started my "DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY".
In 2015 I finished smoothly after being attached at City Hall & it was all crowned with my Graduation in 2016, I was glad I got a CREDIT...
I'd like this graduation to give me better opportunities & to show those coming behind me the importance of education in this times of the new struggle. I urge my fellow youth that "TO WIN THE STRUGGLE WEE NEED MORE GRADUATES FROM THE GHETTO NOT GANGSTERS", so "GHETTO YOUTH RISE & WISE UP YOURSELVES", & start seeing the bigger picture.
The crowning words on the day were made by Prof NGUGI WA THIONG'O, "reach for the Stars & it's even better if you become a star", & as normally I've always been the Milky Way.....
He also told us to own our country first before we protect it, that logic is that we cannot steal from what is already ours... These words also Sparked the new Flame of Patriotism in me, Hope my Diploma Will Help reach the Heights I've always wanted to climb.

WORD CAMP NAIROBI 2016

December 2016 started with a bang, word press was in Nairobi on the 1st & 2nd for word camp Nairobi at PAWA254 & I was pleasured to be there as part of the volunteering crew, I happen to be a  word press user from 2015, so I surely was also going to reap a lot from the camp.
The 2 day event was not a tight sealed formal session but an engaging forum, with numerous speakers lined up on the menu to serve us with their knowledge, after which the delegates were given a chance to ask questions in order to gain more understanding or even comment & add to what the speaker said.
I was also privileged to be given a chance to perform a poetry piece “I FIGHT FOR LOVE“, before session kick off y’all know “CODE IS POETRY”, cheers word camp for the platform.
The best thing about word camp was that even after the speaker had left the stage, the conversation continued over tea, lunch & even an awesome cocktail  after party that was held on the end of DAY 2, People exchanged business cards, shared their websites & social media details even a watsapp group & a NAIROBI WORDPRESS MEET UP group on MEETUP.COM was shared for us to form a community.
The Event was covered by WordPress.tv. I got to learn a lot the 3Ps of anyone owning a blog (passion, patience & persistence), 3Cs (content, community, conversation) including on how to increase your S.E.O.(Search.Engine.Optimization).
A point that I had a vague Idea on was still stressed on at Word Camp & we were told to be Ethical in our works & worry about our posts, avoiding rude & offensive comments or inappropriate pictures. Being careless on social media may lock a user from numerous opportunities i.e your twitter account is your business card & blog your C.V. mmmmmhhh for free people like us you don’t need to limit your thinking, you only need to be ethical  & limit what you post & share on your site.
I learnt the power of a blog as a source of income, many of the speakers there work from their homes, some even from their bedrooms for only 1 or 2 hours a day but still earn from their blogs.
It was a great experience, a lot of goodies were delivered by Word Camp sponsors, T-Shirts, sunglasses, pens, stickers, badges & lots of WordPress swag.
I look forward to work  on my blogging & make more use of my blog, try to earn something from it & also sharpen my writing skills & graduate to become the author/writer that I’ve always wanted to be.
I’ll evaluate myself at Word Camp 2017 GOD willing…
